Newcastle United make first 'bid’ of January window

Newcastle United have reportedly made a £14million bid for Flamengo’s Brazil Under-20 international forward Matheus Franca.

That is according Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims the 18-year-old is also being monitored by Lyon and Real Madrid.

The young forward has scored seven goals in 29 professional appearances for Flamengo.

Magpies head coach Eddie Howe claimed last week that the club had made no formal bids for players so far this month but are active in the transfer market. And with Chris Wood leaving to join Nottingham Forest, Newcastle's need to sign a striker this month has increased considerably.

Newcastle United reignite interest in Everton youngster

Newcastle are reportedly considering making a fresh move for Everton’s Anthony Gordon after having a bid rejected in the summer, according to Mail Online. The 21-year-old winger has scored three goals in 16 Premier League appearances for The Toffees this season.

But with growing unrest at Everton which saw fans confront the likes of Gordon and defender Yerry Mina in their cars following the defeat to bottom-of-the table Southampton, United may look to take advantage of the situation.

Besiktas interested in Newcastle United midfielder

Reports from Turkey claim Super Lig club Besiktas are in talks to sign Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle United. Turkish outlet Spor Arena have reported that Besiktas are ‘close’ to agreeing a deal for the 30-year-old midfielder.

A fee of £3.1million has also been reported by Fotomac. The Gazette understands that Newcastle do not plan on letting Shelvey leave this month as it stands with Eddie Howe looking to bolster rather than weaken his midfield options.

Shelvey’s contract – reportedly worth £70,000-a-week – is set to expire in the summer but he will trigger a one-year extension should he start two more matches for Newcastle. He is yet to start a game in the Premier League this season due to injury.

The midfielder is currently sidelined with a calf problem but is set to be back in action next month.
