NEWCASTLE United’s Sammy Ameobi is a target for Sheffield Wednesday.
Stuart Gray, the Hillsborough club’s head coach, has been in contact with the forward’s agent.
“We have spoken to Sammy’s agent,” Gray told the Sheffield Star.
“He is a quality player, and he’s shown that by playing in the Premier League. We will see what happens.”
It remains to be seen whether United – who farmed Ameobi out to Middlesbrough last season – will part with the 22-year-old, who has a year left on his St James’s Park contract.
Newcastle may be willing to loan out the 22-year-old, who found his opportunities limited last season.
For his part, Ameobi is focused on making a success of his United career.
“Next season’s the big one for me – it’s my opportunity,” said Ameobi.
“I’ve got one year left on my contract, and I’ve got to prove I’m good enough to be a Newcastle player.”
