ALAN Pardew will take no chances with Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul – after he suffered an injury in a training ground collision with Cheik Tiote.
Krul is rated as “doubtful” for this afternoon’s home FA Cup tie against Cardiff City.
The 25-year-old has injured the shoulder he dislocated in last season’s Tyne-Wear derby.
And Rob Elliot is on standby to replace him at St James’s Park for the third-round tie, with Krul set for a late fitness test.
“Tim’s got a slight knock on his shoulder, and obviously I’m going to be cautious, as it’s the shoulder he had an injury on,” Pardew said.
“I think Cheik actually ran into him.
“In terms of him, I’ll have to wait until the morning and take a judgement on that.”
Elliot impressed last season in Krul’s absences through injury, and if there are any doubts about Krul’s fitness, the 27-year-old will play.
“I wouldn’t have any concerns playing Rob,” said Pardew.
“He proved last year he’s more than capable.”
