AYOZE Perez has become Newcastle United’s first senior permanent signing since January 2013.
The Magpies today confirmed the capture of the 20-year-old, who joins from Tenerife on a long-term contract.
Perez is expected to link up with Newcastle’s development squad next season, although he could get a chance to impress in pre-season.
He turns 21 next month, and scored 16 goals in 34 games in Spain’s second tier this season – their campaign finally ends with a trip to Sporting Gijon tomorrow.
After completing the reported £1.8m move, Perez said: “I’m very happy to be here to start this new adventure.
“I’m very eager for it to begin and I’m very pleased to play for this magnificent club.
“Any football player would be interested in playing for such a club and I will earn my position to get in the first team.”
The confirmation of Perez’s signing had been expected after pictures of him at St James’s Park were posted on Twitter last night.
