ALAN Pardew hopes that Newcastle star Cheick Tiote will return sooner rather than later from the hamstring problem which has ruled him out of tomorrow’s game at Chelsea
The midfielder has had a scan on the injury, which he suffered in a training session early this week.
Tiote has already been ruled out of Wednesday’s home game against Tottenham.
The injury is a blow to Pardew, who saw Yohan Cabaye, Tiote’s midfield partner, leave the club in last month’s transfer window.
“He’s got a hamstring, and he’s going for a scan,” Pardew said. “But fingers crossed it’s only level one, which is the lowest.
“If that is the case, there’s an outside chance for Villa (on February 23). He definitely won’t feature in the next two games.”
Tiote had been wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of club skipper Fabricio Coloccini, who faces another three weeks on the sidelines with a knee problem.
