ALAN Pardew is hopeful that captain Fabricio Coloccini will stay at Newcastle United.

The defender asked to leave St James’s Park in January.

But the 31-year-old – who is wanted by Argentinian club San Lorenzo – agreed to stay on pending further talks in the summer.

“My hope is that he stays,” said Pardew, whose side host Arsenal on Sunday.

“We want him to stay, and I hope the fans give him that message. Sunday is an opportunity to do that.

“We’ve really missed him (during his absence through injury),

“We got over the line, and a big part of that was down to Coloccini.”
