NEWCASTLE United have agreed a deal with Montpellier for Remy Cabella, according to the French club’s chairman.
Laurent Nicollin has been quoted in French newspaper Midi Libre as saying there is an “agreement” between the two clubs.
But Nicollin, son of club president Louis, added that 23-year-old Cabella would not leave the Ligue 1 club until the summer.
“We have agreed a deal with Newcastle, something I will not go into,” said chairman Nicollin.
“However, the deal does not include the departure of Remy Cabella before June. That is a certainty.”
Nicollin’s statement, however, has been contradicted by his father, who has indicated there is an offer from United, but no agreement as yet.
Newcastle, as yet, have made no comment on Nicollin Jnr’s claim.
United have been involved in lengthy discussions with Montpellier over the attacking midfielder, who has previously indicated he was keen to stay at Montpellier until the end of the season.
