REMY Cabella is looking forward to finally taking to the field at St James’s Park – after starring on the road for Newcastle United.
Cabella has scored two goals in his first three pre-season appearances for the Tynesiders.
The 24-year-old, signed from Montpellier in a £7million deal is this summer, scored a late equaliser against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night with a clever chip, having grabbed his opening Newcastle goal in last Sunday’s 3-1 win over Schalke 04 in Germany – after coming off the bench.
While manager Alan Pardew feels Cabella is short of fitness, the France international will be very much in his thoughts when he selects his starting XI for champions Manchester City’s opening Premier League visit to St James’s Park next Sunday.
Cabella was impressed by the ground when he was given a tour after signing last month.
And he can’t wait to play in front of Newcastle’s fans, saying: “St James’s Park is a special stadium. I think it’s unique – I don’t think I’ve seen a stadium like it.
“I’m really looking forward to hearing the atmosphere and getting on the pitch. It will give me a lot of pleasure to play here.”
Cabella’s first chance to play on home turf for the Magpies will come on Sunday, when Spanish outfit Real Sociedad visit for Newcastle’s final pre-season friendly (1.30pm kick-off).
Pardew is expected to give Cabella – who played 90 minutes against Huddersfield – another long run-out ahead of the City game.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Newcastole striker Adam Campbell has joined League One club Fleetwood Town on a month-long loan.
Campbell – who has made four substitute appearances in pre-season – spent the second half of last season at Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, scoring twice in 11 appearances.
