ALAN Pardew says there have been some home truths told on Newcastle United’s training field.
The Magpies’ winless start to the Premier League season continued with Monday’s 1-0 defeat at Stoke, and Newcastle are second-bottom in the table ahead of tomorrow’s game at Swansea.
But Pardew has not criticised his players in public. However, there have been words exchanged in private, according to the 53-year-old.
“It’s obvious the team’s not functioning right at the moment,” said Pardew. “But there’s no lack of fight, and I think that’s important.
“There has been some harsh words said. They’ve been said on the training ground, and that’s where they’ll stay.”
Asked if the past few weeks have been the most challenging of his managerial career, Pardew said: “Yeah, it probably is.
“But I have had difficult periods before. We had a difficult period at the end of last season, and tried to put that right in the summer.”
