NEWCASTLE left-back Paul Dummett will be given a chance to stake a claim for a place in Alan Pardew’s starting XI in pre-season.
The defender had a run in the team late last season, with first-choice left-back Davide Santon injured.
And Dummett – who signed a long-term deal last year – is looking to build on his breakthrough campaign. It has been claimed that the 22-year-old’s name has been circulated to Championship clubs with a view to a loan this season.
But manager Pardew – who also has Massadio Haidara competing for the left-back berth – is keeping his options open.
Pardew will assess Dummett and Haidara in the coming weeks, starting in Tuesday’s friendly at Oldham.
Meanwhile, Santon – who missed much of the second half of last season through a series of injuries – is focused on returning to full fitness.
