SHOLA Ameobi scored the only goal of the game at Bloomfield Road this afternoon.
Ameobi netted from a first-half corner to give Newcastle United a 1-0 win over Championship club Blackpool.
Captain Yohan Cabaye’s fifth-minute flag kick was flicked to Ameobi by Mike Williamson, and he brought the ball down and shot past Matt Gilks.
The striker - whose pre-season goal tally now stands at three - was replaced at the break after suffering a knock late in the half.
Newcastle had the better of the first half, but Blackpool side fought back after the break, with Tom Ince creating a handful of chances for himself.
Gilks denied United a second goal late in the game when he stopped a shot from Sylvain Marveaux.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was without the suspended Fabricio Coloccini.
And Hatem Ben Arfa, Cheik Tiote, Vurnon Anita and Papiss Demba Cisse were all left behind on Tyneside to work on their fitness.
United’s next friendly is at St Mirren on Tuesday night.
