A CHARITY fundraiser is to be held in honour of Newcastle United’s Jonas Gutierrez.

The Spiderman Ball will be staged at Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth, on May 5.

Gutierrez, nicknamed “Spider-Man” for donning a superhero mask to celebrate his goals, was given the all-clear late last year after treatment for testicular cancer.

The 31-year-old made an emotional comeback for Newcastle against Manchester United last week.

Speaking this week, Gutierrez said: “Every moment on the pitch is special, because a few months ago I didn’t know if I was ever going to get back on the pitch.

“I wanted to but you never know what’s coming. Every minute I play I will enjoy it more than ever.”

The Spiderman Ball, which is being organised by Gutierrez’s club-mate Steven Taylor, will be raising money for testicular cancer charity Ballboys.

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, a Ballboys patron, has pledged his support to the function, dubbed a “fashion, entertainment and sporting diner”.

Players from Newcastle and Chelsea will attend the event.
