NEDUM Onuoha cannot wait to get back into Sunderland’s first team after being unavailable to play against parent club Manchester City last weekend, writes GRAEME ANDERSON.
The on-loan full-back has missed the last four games through injury and ineligibility, but he has every chance of starting this Saturday against West Brom in the wake of Sunderland’s depressing 5-0 drubbing at Eastlands.
If he does return against Albion, it will not be a moment too soon for a player who is in a hurry to progress his career.
Onuoha said: “I’ve missed playing and I can’t wait to get back. It has been frustrating having to sit through some disappointing results, but now I’m back and fully fit it will be great to think I can get out there to help us get some good results.
“There are a lot of players thinking we need to get as many points as possible before the end of the season. We are desperate for that first win, but I think, once we get back to winning ways, you’ll see an improvement overall.
“For me, my focus is on what is in front of us and I’ve got no doubt we can well in these next few weeks and I’m still looking up the table rather than down.
“I feel more relaxed thinking about trying to catch someone rather than those trying to catch us.
“In the end, you can just get worked up if you’re worrying about what’s happening below you in the table and it will come back and bite you if you think like that.”
