MIDDLESBROUGH’S injury situation has eased as they prepare to host Ipswich Town tomorrow.

Kevin Thomson, Mustapha Carayol, Nicky Bailey and Lukas Jutkiewicz are all edging closer to match fitness having missed recent games.

Influential midfielder Thomson picked up a calf strain in the opening game of the campaign at Bury, but manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that he is nearing a return.

“He’s had four or five weeks off injured and has been working hard every day, but there’s nothing to replace actually playing football matches,” he explained.

“Mustapha Carayol hasn’t been involved either, but he’s not far away now as well.

“Nicky Bailey is with the physios at the moment, but hopefully building up to training next week or the week after.”
