WEARSIDER Jake Fowler was among eight players released by Middlesbrough yesterday.
The utility man, 21, saw his three-year contract expire at the end of the season.
Fowler, capped at England at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels, did not make a first-team appearance for the Teessiders.
He had four appearances on loan at Gateshead last season.
Boro have also freed midfielders Cameron Park and Matthew Waters, keeper Jayson Leutwiler and defenders Stuart Parnaby, Frazer Richardson, Lewis Sirrell and Birger Meling.
Boss Aitor Karanka has given pro contracts to striker James Warnett, midfielder Mark Kitching and defensive duo Jonathan Burn and Kieran Weledji.
