NEWCASTLE slipped out of the FA Cup in dismal fashion today, losing 2-0 away to Championship club Brighton in the third round.

The Seagulls, who knocked the Tynesiders out of the competition last season, too, went ahead with a strike from Andrea Orlandi at the Amex Stadium.

A fine strike by sub Will Hoskins made sure for Brighton three minutes from time, with Alan Pardew’s men down to 10 men following the second-half dismissal of skipper-for-the-day Shola Ameobi.

Newcastle made five changes, omitting striker Papiss Cisse from the squad altogether, but their stand-ins failed to make much of an impression.
