Ashbrooke Belford House jumped two places to fifth in the Wearside League following last night’s thrilling 4-2 victory over fourth-placed Hartlepool at Silksworth.
Two goals ahead inside 24 minutes, thanks to Nathan Burrell and Jordan Birnie, the Wearsiders were pegged back as Ashley Turnbull bagged a brace, including a penalty.
When Ashbrooke had Adam Hopps shown a straight red card after an hour, the odds shifted in Pool’s favour. But 10-man Belford finished strongly and, following Josh Farquhar’s 75th-minute strike, James Fairley made the game safe just before the end.
Belford face a tricky clash on Saturday, when they visit Coxhoe to take on Spennymoor Town Reserves, who are eighth in the table.
Boldon CA outgunned bottom club Murton 7-0, with hat-tricks by Adam Bell and sub Dominic Mossa backed by a Josh Houghton strike.
The win was the ideal boost ahead of Boldon’s daunting Monkwearmouth Cup semi-final at Stockton Town.
Cleator Moor Celtic hit Whitehaven for six in the Cumbrian derby. Adam Telfer (3), Adam Meagan, Darren Johnson and Leigh Dunn struck against a Whitehaven side who had captain Mal Holliday sent off after 28 minutes.
