Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson is being linked with a last-gasp move to Sunderland.
Dawson, 28, had been set to join QPR earlier in the transfer window but the deal collapsed over personal terms.
The centre-back, who is a full England international, would command a fee of around £9million, but it is thought the Black Cats will only sign him if Spurs drop that asking price.
Dawson is deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane following the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as manager, and it now seems Martin O’Neill may be set to offer him an escape route to Wearside.
