SOUTHAMPTON manager Nigel Adkins is confident that a club record deal for Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez is close to completion.
Signing Ramirez, who had been linked with Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool, would represent a major coup for the south coast club, but the deal has been far from clear-cut.
As transfer negotiations broke down between the two clubs last Friday, it emerged that Ramirez was threatening to go on strike in order to push through his move to St Mary’s.
And it appears the Uruguay forward has got his wish, with Saints manager Adkins saying: “We are very, very close. All being well, he will become our player.”
The deal believed to be in the region of £12 million, is subject to Ramirez being granted a conditional work permit before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
