CHAMPIONS League newcomers Malaga have announced the signing of Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz on a season-long loan deal.
After being frozen out of the squad at Eastlands, behind Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko in the pecking order, Santa Cruz has made the move to the wealthy Spanish side.
The 31 year-old spent last season on loan at Real Betis, bagging seven goals in 33 appearances.
Officials at Betis have recently voiced their displeasure at the move, saying that they believed Santa Cruz was all set to re-join them.
The former Blackburn hitman was signed by Mark Hughes in 2009, but after being plagued with injury has made just 20 appearances in that time.
His contract expires in just under 12 months time, with a host of clubs expected to be interested in a more permanent deal when he becomes a free agent.
