NEWCASTLE’S Ryan Taylor has been ruled out for several months with a cruciate knee ligament injury, leaving Newcastle short of cover in several areas of their squad.
The versatile Taylor had been set to have a crucial role this season with the extra demands of the Europa League making squad rotation a necessity, but manager Alan Pardew will now have to do without the Liverpudlian.
Taylor went down in agony 11 minutes into Newcastle’s 1-0 Europa League win over Atromitos, and the injury appears as bad as first feared.
Earlier today, Pardew insisted he was satisfied with the cover for Taylor, which consists of James Perch and James Tavernier, but it remains to be seen whether he will now revise his plans due to the long-term injury.
It remains unlikely Newcastle will dip into the transfer market before the window closes tonight, but the Taylor blow may yet spark them into action.
