Sunderland Sunday League: Extra special Hylton Castle TWR land cup final glory against battling Dons

An enthralling final finished 3-3, after David Hall, Sean Sweeney and Kieran McDonald found the net for Dons.

Hylton had Kieron Martin, Tom Callaghan and Liam Wooton on target in normal time, and they went on to dominate the extra half hour, with goals from Hodgson and Jordan Monson securing the cup.

The Hylton Castle outfit have dedicated this trophy to their local hero, Norman Nellins, who sadly passed away.

Hylton Castle TWR Bifold Doors earlier produced one of the performances of the season to outgun league champions Farringdon ISL in the Premier Division.

Hylton only had nine men to call on, but it didn’t affect them one bit as they dominated the game and were unlucky not to make it double figures.

Star man Kieron Martin (2), Tom Callaghan (2) and Callum Hodgson did the damage, while Page replied for Farringdon.

Prior to that, the sides had drawn 2-2.

Ryan Mather fired a double for Farra, but star man Tom Callaghan was on hand to rescue a point with his double.

RCA Grangetown Florists beat The Ashbrooke 3-1.

Goals from John Turvey and star man Chris Thompson (2) earned Florists the win. Callum Charlton rolled back the years to hit a tasty effort past Kieran Harkness in the RCA goal.

Hendon Athletic were confirmed as runners-up in Division Four, clinching promotion in the process, in unusual circumstances.

Champions Victoria Gardens were awarded a 1-0 last-day win due to East Rainton unfortunately being unable to field a team.

This gave the Vics three more points and confirmed their unbeaten league status, as well as seeing Athletic promoted on goal difference ahead of East Rainton.

Woodlands ran 3-1 winners over the youthful Wearmouth CW Juniors side. They were 3-0 up before Aaron Morris replied late on. Mark Dickinson starred for Wearmouth.

Willow Pond walloped a poor Thorney Close Inn side 5-1 in their final Division One game.

Willow had Jake McDermott, Aiden King and a brace from Mark Cresswell to thank for a 4-0 lead before Peter Greenwell replied for Thorney.

King hit the last for the Willow, whose star man was Warren Cassap, to put Thorney out of the misery. Michael Patterson was the visitors’ man of the match.

Thorney Close can look forward to next season, though, after revealing their new manager.

They have managed to prise Paul Taylor away from Farringdon ISL as player-manager after the promise of a statue to be erected on Tay Road.

Relegated Pennywell Comrades ended their season with a 3-3 draw against Vane Arms.

Jolly Potters could not end their impressive Second Division promotion campaign with a win as they came up against a plucky Hendon side.

Stephen Podd and Lee Owens got the important goals for Hendon in a 2-1 win, with Keith Reay starring. Paul Webster hit his usual goal for Potters, with Ryan Bussey their top man.

TC Plastics finished off their season in style with an easy 8-0 over Washington New Tavern.

Andy Morris and Mark Catcheside both hit doubles, with further goals from Gareth Stoker, Colin Robson, Michael Stevens and Kurt Oxberry completed the rout. Kieron Stokoe starred.

AFC Wearside and Ryhope Railway Inn shared the spoils in an eight-goal thriller in a typical end-of-season fixture.

Wearside had Barlow, Owen, Williams and Howard on target, but Ryhope Railway replied each time through Jamie Cole, Craig Whelam and two-goal Dean Machin. Ben Rowlands starred.

Corey Steel hit the only goal to claim all three points for The Stumble Inn at The Victory Club. James Smiles shone for Victory, while Jason Alexander stood out for Stumble.

Earlier, The Stumble Inn made easy work of The Dolphin with a effortless 5-0 midweek win.

Stumble look to be a potential force next season after their recent good form. John Thubron netted twice, followed by strikes from Rhys Robson, Corey Steel and Andrew Dodsworth.

Jack Gallagher was star man for Stumble, while Jordan Sweeney shone for Dolphin.
