SEAHAM Red Star, who narrowly missed out on promotion from the Ebac Northern League Second Division last season, begin their preparations for the new campaign with an attractive home friendly against Gateshead tonight (7.30 pm).
Gateshead came close to regaining Football League status and manager Gary Mills has told Red Star boss Mark Collingwood that he will field a strong side.
“It was great when Gateshead agreed to play us and we’re all looking forward to the match which will give me a chance to field four close-season signings,” said Collingwood.
Left-back David Gordon and midfielder Craig Price have come in from Crook Town together with strikers Sonny Andrews (Spennymoor Town) and Grant Pressling (Jarrow).
Lee Kerr and David Palmer are unavailable and Collingwood reckons that he has now assembled the squad which will kick-off the season on August 9 at Heaton Stannington, who ended fifth top last season, one place below Red Star.
