RYHOPE CW signed off another hugely successful season in the Wearside League when they blasted Boldon CA with an 8-1 defeat last night.
The visitors’ cause wasn’t helped when they conceded two own goals in the opening 20 minutes, both resulting from crosses by Jack Stanger.
In between, Stanger struck the Wearsiders’ second goal in the 20th minute and after half an hour, John Butler made it four when he became the League’s leading scorer with 41 goals. In all games, the prolific striker has notched 54 times.
Although David Hopper reduced the deficit early in the second period, there was little respite for the South Tynesiders.
John Harrison rifled a hat-trick and Johnny Davis completed the romp five minutes from the end.
Ryhope are the leading scorers with 136 goals and they have conceded only 30, the lowest of the 19 clubs.
Sunderland West End finish a creditable fourth in their first season in the competition.
They ended with a 3-1 victory at home to Hartlepool who never seriously threatened after conceding two goals in the first 28 minutes.
Adam McQuillen got in front of his marker to convert a John Coomber cross and Stephen Bogie delivered a clinical finish from 25 yards.
Michael Wharton volleyed in from the edge of the penalty area after 62 minutes and it was not until near the end that Jack Megran claimed a consolation goal for Pools.
Jarrow, who until recently were in a strong position to end third, are sixth following a goalless draw with Cleator Moor Celtic, who will leapfrog the South Tynesiders if they win their last two games.
