RYHOPE CW have made six signings as they prepare to return to the Ebac Northern League Second Division this season.

The ambitious club, promoted as runners-up in the Wearside League, have raided Crook Town to snap up midfielder Craig Hughes and defenders Daryll Evans and Stephen Francis – with boss Gary Pearson having worked with the trio at the Millfield last season.

Ryhope have also snapped up ex-Consett, Whitley Bay and Gateshead midfielder David Pounder and ex-England Under-18s schoolboy skipper Paul Braithwaite, as well as re-signing keeper Chris Rookes for a second stint at the club, following spells at Morpeth and Chester-le-Street.

Ryhope have held on to the majority of last season’s squad, but Scott Donaldson and Ryan Graham have joined Crook.

Ryhope are due to start their pre-season programme with an attractive home friendly against Whitley Bay on Saturday, July 12.
