RYHOPE CW are now only five points behind Wearside League leaders Redcar Athletic with three games in hand after last night’s comfortable victory over Sunderland West End at Leyburn Grove, Houghton.
Nathan O’Neil headed past goalkeeper Scott Young on 40 minutes and after an hour John Butler doubled the lead from close range.
Young made a good save from a corner, but when the ball rebounded, Philip Hall slotted home to complete a 3-0 win.
Ashbrooke Belford House won the bottom four clash with Kirkbymoorside. Jake Moan volleyed into the net after 65 minutes and with 10 minutes remaining, Michael Charlton also struck.
An only goal proved sufficient for Peterlee Town in their home game with Wolviston.
Both sides missed chances until Calvin Magnussen quickly took a free kick and fired past Wolviston goalkeeper Daniel Jeffrey in the 55th minute.
It has been a bad few days for Darlington Cleveland Bridge who, after conceding seven goals to Ryhope CW at the weekend, were hit for six by Cleator Moor Celtic.
Glynn Edwards with a brace, Craig Scott, Craig Padley, Michael Dickinson and Gareth Evans all beat Bridge goalkeeper Richard Snowdon.
It was the first time Cleator Moor had staged a game since mid-November.
