Peterlee Sunday League: Dawdon dazzlers on target for stunning quadruple

They lifted the Premier Division League Cup last Friday, need only a point for the title and are also in the final of the other two domestic cups.

It was a one-sided Premier cup final when they cruised to a 6-0 win over Shotton Comrades thanks to goals from Wes Smith (2), Andrew Beer, Kyle Bell, Robbie Bird and Paul Atkinson. Thomas Price starred, with Paul Cudlip best for Comrades.

Two days later, Dawdon beat Thornley Harrys Bar 4-0 to reach the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup final, with Atkinson’s brace supported by goals from Bell and Smith. Beer was star man, with keeper Jonathan Clarkson best for Thornley.

The Green Drive side’s opponents in the final will be Horden CW Supporters Club who comfortably defeated First Division Easington HMS Victory in their semi.

James Connor (3), Rob Taylor (2) and John Williams (2) did the damage, while Michael Stuart and Lewis Beeston replied. Dale Harker starred for Victory.

In the Premier Division, two goals apiece from Karl Garside and Ryan Pinder, plus efforts from John Hutton, Carl Thomas and sub Andrew Upperton, set up Murton Park View to beat depleted Shotton Comrades 7-1.

Lewis Edwards fired the consolation.

Easington CIU dominated to sink Peterlee Helford United 5-0, with two-goal Graham Hornsby, Simon Todd, Craig Robinson and Paul Elliott notching.

Scott Henderson (2), Ben Gritton, Adam Malekpour and Jim Hissett steered Hetton The Tuns home 5-1 against Seaham The George, with Thomas Hobkirk replying. Chris Hughes shone for Tuns, Steven Hobkirk for George.

The race for promotion from the First Division is really hotting up.

Easington Welfare lead the way after two wins in four days.

They beat close rivals Easington Southside 3-1, thanks to Josh Lincoln, Joe Taboun and Darren Major, with Matt Billyard responding.

In midweek, Welfare beat another side in with a shout for promotion, Shotton Builders Warehouse, 2-1. Lincoln and Jay Jobson struck, with Steve Monaghan replyin.

Bradley Beeston, Rory Armstrong and Craig Woodward netted for Shotton Builders Warehouse in a 3-1 win against South Hetton Cricket Club, with Liam Watson bagging the reply.

Goals from Tom Farrell and Ken Pounder saw Easington Southside bounce straight back to winning ways, 2-0 against Easington HMS Victory.

David Paul (4), Paul Wintrip, James Harbord, Scott Brown and Alan Smith saw off Hetton Social 8-3, with Nathan Fannan, Karl Powney and Gary Medd replying. Rob Mayo starred for Hetton

In midweek, Catholic hammered Wingate Grange 9-2. Liam Wintrip’s hat-trick was supported by Luke Wallace (2), Joshua Ridley, Alan Smith, Paul Wintrip and Ross Stephenson.

Hetton Social won 3-0 at FC Peterlee Moorcock.

Murton New Hesledon lost valuble ground in the Second Division promotion race.

Anthony Cook’s goal was not enough as they suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat against Hetton Fox and Hounds, who had Matthew Price (2), Daniel Robson and Robert Talbot netting. Michael Brunning shone for Hetton, with keeper Andrew Naylor best for the hosts.

Wingate Plough Inn boosted their bid, beating New Seaham Mallard 3-0, courtesy of Dave Cummings (2) and Joe Coulson.

Tudor Marcu and Chris Collings struck for Acre Rigg SC in a 2-2 draw against Peterlee Oaklands, with sub Philip Robinson bagging both replies.

Ashley Wilkinson, Michael Bayles and sub Jamie Cresswell struck for Peterlee Central Club in a 4-3 loss to Peterlee Hearts. Steven Freeman, Carl Winstanley, Sean English and David Kember notched for Hearts.
