THE entire programme was almost wiped out by the weather and the only game to go ahead was the Wearside League Cup tie in Cumbria where Peterlee Town bowed out to Cleator Moor Celtic.
Not surprisingly, the pitch was heavy and few clear-cut scoring opportunities were created in the game.
Neither goalkeeper was seriously extended and it took a penalty to break the deadlock in the 75th minute.
Ryan Hall was brought down and youngster Jordan Little kept his cool, sending Peterlee goalkeeper Kyle Donaldson the wrong way from the spot.
The Newtowners stepped up a gear searching for an equaliser but left the way open for the Cumbrians to book their place in the Second Round.
Home goalkeeper Grant Carson set up a counter-attack with his long ball forward and Brian Rooney slotted home following a 20-yard run on goal complete a 2-0 victory.
The other seven cup-ties were all postponed which could mean that next Saturday’s fixtures will be amended.
