THREE clubs have been accepted into the Wearside League for the 2011/12 season.
The league was rocked at the 11th hour by the surprise resignation of New Marske, due to the management team and several players moving to another club, Northern League outfit Stokesley.
The Teessiders’ shock withdrawal meant five clubs fighting for three vacancies at the league’s annual meeting.
Peterlee Town, Leam Rangers and Silksworth Rangers got the nod, with Richmond Mavericks and Richmond Town out of luck despite impressing in interviews.
Peterlee will be delighted to be back in the Wearside League almost 30 years after originally leaving to join the Northern League, having lately been in the Northern Alliance.
Leam move up after two seasons in the Durham Alliance League, while Silksworth Rangers will feature the Herrington and Grindon Rangers team who played in the Durham County U18s League last term, supplemented by players from the now-defunct Silksworth team who competed in the Wearside League last season.
