Northern League: Ryhope sunk by Sullivan hat-trick as Steelmen show mettle

Ryhope CW found Consett too strong in the First Division of the Ebac Northern League last night, succumbing to a 4-1 away defeat.

The Steelmen were ahead on 21 minutes when Luke Sullivan intercepted a back pass and scored from a narrow angle.

Three minutes later, Sullivan got his second from a Jordan Lavery corner, then Sullivan completed his hat-trick in the 38th minute when he beat a defender and placed the ball past keeper Chris Rookes.

Two minutes into the second period, Gary Pearson’s men pulled one back when striker Conor Winter ran on to a long clearance and headed over the stranded keeper, substitute Ben Cole.

But Consett regained their three-goal advantage on 56 minutes when a long through ball found Sullivan, who rounded the keeper and slotted home.

Ryhope’s chances were all but killed off when Thomas Bott was red-carded for an off-the-ball incident, but they defended gamely to keep the score at 4-1.

North Shields rocked host Marske United with an excellent 2-1 away win.

Marske led early on when Glen Butterworth’s free-kick was headed home by Jamie Owens. But Jack Devlin held off Dale Mulligan’s challenge to level matters, then Dan Wilson set up Lee Mason to bag the Robins’ winner.

West Auckland lost 3-1 at home to Morpeth Town.

Paul Robinson converted Luke Carr’s right-wing cross to put Morpeth in front on 33 minutes, and Michael Chilton soon doubled the lead.

West pulled one back on 59 minutes, debutant Adam Preston holding off a defender and volleying past keeper Carl Dryden from 30 yards.

Morpeth, though, sealed victory when Robinson finished off a left-wing cross for 3-1.

Shaun Vipond made it 2-1 for Roofing, nodding home a corner, but Andre Bennett equalised with 15 minutes to go when he fired home a low cross from the right.
