Murton are back in the Wearside League – and a newly-formed Seaham Red Star Reserves team have also claimed a place at the AGM.

Murton left the Wearside League in 1988 to join the Northern League but since demotion in 2004 have been in the Northern Alliance and, in recent years, the Durham Alliance League.

Now, the hard work of long-serving Tom Torrence, Callum Milne and the club’s committee has paid off with acceptance as one of two vacancies in the Wearside League, whose season starts on August 1.

The other newcomers are Northern League Seaham Red Star’s second string, under the control of Don Naylor and Tommy Thynne.

A club official said: “We are delighted that the current member clubs of the Wearside League decided to vote in our favour. We would like to thank them all, everything is in place to make the reserve side a success.

“For the management team of Don and Tommy, the hard work starts now.”
