SPENNYMOOR Town, gearing up for life in the EvoStik League First Division North, were much too strong for Marske United in Saturday’s J.R. Cleator Cup match at the Brewery Field.
The trophy is competed for by the Ebac Northern League champions and Brooks Mileson Memorial Cup winners.
Marske lifted the League Cup with a shock win over Whitley Bay in last season’s final at St James’s Park, but they rarely looked like upsetting the form book against Jason Ainsley’s side.
Lewis Dodds, Michael Roberts, Liam Henderson, John McReady, Anthony Peacock and Craig Lynch struck in a 6-2 home success, with Keith Graydon (own goal) and Fred Woodhouse accounting for Marske’s consolations.
Moors do not start their league season at Padiham until August 16, but host Hartlepool United in a friendly tonight and welcome a Sunderland XI to the Brewery Field this Saturday.
Moors have also made their first home league game, against Darlington 1883 on Tuesday, August 19, an all-ticket match, with prices £8 (adults), £5 (over-60s) and £3 (under-16s). The sides drew almost 3,000 fans to their last meeting in the 2012/13 Northern League season.
