DURHAM Women slipped to a seventh defeat in as many matches this season last night, going down 3-0 away to Everton in their FA WSL Continental Cup Group Two clash.

Kelly Jones and Simone Magill netted either side of the break, before debutant Lauren Davies curled home a spectacular 25-yarder into the top corner with four minutes remaining.

Durham’s best chances came when Rosie Young headed tamely into Everton goalkeeper Megan Walsh’s hands, then Zoe Ness went clean through only to fluff her lines.

Coach Andy Thorpe is not hitting the panic button just yet. “It’s a new team, some of these players haven’t played together before,” he said. “We’ll still learning but there’s good team spirit. I don’t think we gave up at any time – we kept pressing well and caused them a few problems at the back.

“It’s a challenge every week but we’ve got a good team spirit. We don’t look at the scorelines too much, we created good chances.”
