A 1-1 DRAW was a fair result when Durham City and Curzon Ashton met in last night’s Evo-Stik League Division One North game at the Esh Group stadium.
City comfortably contained their illustrious opponents, stretching an unbeaten sequence to four games.
Curzon started at a fast and furious pace and Steven Moore and Chris McDonagh both went close in the opening 10 minutes.
When Durham broke, Stephen Thompson fired wide and shortly afterwards he lobbed goalkeeper David Carnell but his effort just cleared the crossbar.
Carnell read the game well to beat Amar Purewal to a great through ball from David Dowson before Curzon went ahead on 33 minutes.
A free kick was headed clear but only to Joseph Evans and he drove low into the net through a crowd of players.
Thompson was close to an equaliser before the interval and there was a dramatic start to the second half when James Ogoo was red-carded for a tackle on Andrew Stephenson.
City claimed a deserved equaliser in the 62nd minute. The mercurial Thompson found Dowson who turned his marker and drove the ball low into the net.
Durham almost snatched the winner deep into stoppage time but Jack Pounder’s header was just wide of the mark.
DURHAM CITY: L Graham, Harbord (E Graham), Ayers, Stephenson, Wilkinson, Arjun Purewal, Amar Purewal, Cutts, Dowson, Thompson, English (Pounder).
