DURHAM City were engaged in a nine-goal thriller, but unfortunately for them, most were scored by Skelmersdale United.
Manager Dickie Ord had called for a positive end to what has been a topsy turvy season in the Evo-Stik League Division One North.
And when they went two goals ahead after an incredible couple of minutes, it looked as if his team had been listening.
Stephen Thompson swept in a cross by Amar Purewal, who doubled the lead.
But the home side quickly hit back to level through Tom Hardwick and Shaun Tuck, only for Amar Purewal to regain the initiative when he converted a good pass from Andrew Stephenson.
Just before the interval, however, Josh Hine restored parity and in the second half Skelmersdale took over.
The result really turned midway through the second half when Chris Almond and Joe Evans beat City goalkeeper Lewis Graham in the space of two minutes.
And just before the end, Ken Strickland struck to complete a 6-3 victory for the hosts.
