THE Ebac Northern League has been rocked by the shock resignation of Ian Chandler as Whitley Bay’s manager.
The Sunderland-born boss was at Hillheads for more than 10 years, during which Bay won the FA Carlsberg Vase in three successive seasons.
“It’s a shame that an era has come to an end. I didn’t agree with a decision the board wanted me to carry out, so I had no alternative other than to step down,” said Chandler.
“It might be good for the club and for myself. Only time will tell, but I’ve enjoyed my involvement and will probably be looking to be get back into the game following a short break” said Chandler.
Brian Rowe also resigned and experienced defender Leon Ryan will be in charge for tomorrow’s game at Bishop Auckland.
Whitley Bay have recent signings Chris McDonald, Callum Hope, Tony Stephenson and goalkeeper Mark Cook, who played for Newcastle United Youths and Hartlepool, available at Heritage Park.
