RYHOPE CW have made a major signing in Leon Ryan, who quit as manager of Whitley Bay a couple of weeks ago.
Boss Gary Pearson explained “Leon and I go back a number of years. We played together and when I heard he had left Whitley Bay I was straight on the phone.
“He is our coach but will continue to play and his appointment will allow me to focus more on management together with assistant Stuart Gooden.”
Ryhope’s fixture tomorrow has been rearranged and they are now at Team Northumbria, who are challenging for the promotion. Club captain Phil Hall returns, but Pearson has an injury concern over James Cook.
Seaham Red Star are riding on the crest of wave and, following 17 consecutive wins, have opened up a seven-point lead at the top. They travel to Ryton and Crawcrook Albion minus suspended pair Lewis Wing and Darren Reay. In addition, striker Liam McBryde is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Birtley Town manager Tony Boakes is looking to avenge a three-goal defeat in the previous game when they visit local rivals Chester-le-Street.
Boakes hopes that Lee Best and Alan Herbert will be passed fit, while his opposite number Colin Wake misses a couple of players.
Jordan Fraser has moved to Whickham and a knee ligament injury sidelines Michael Hepplewhite.
