SEAHAM Red Star gave a battling performance, but were undone by debutant Alex Benjamin in last night’s STL Northern League Second Division game against promotion challengers, Hebburn Town.
Benjamin, playing for his fifth club this season, made a flying start for the South Tynesiders when he rifled four goals in a 6-3 victory.
Dan Kirkup and Stuart Wright also beat goalkeeper Ryan Graham and for Seaham, man-of-the-match Daniel Corbett bagged a brace of goals. With virtually the last kick of the game Paul Gardner conceded an own goal to Red Star.
Sunderland RCA’s fixture with Stokesley SC was called off and manager Neil Hixon took in Seaham’s match on South Tyneside.
Tonight, he will anxiously await Spennymoor Town’s result against Bishop Auckland. Jason Ainsley’s side is fourth-top, just a point behind Hixon’s team.
In Division Two, Washington will leap into the middle of the table if they defeat Gillford Park at the Nissan Sports complex, while North Shields could move into third place with victory against Crook Town at the Daren Persson stadium.
