ASHBROOKE Belford House celebrated winning their first silverware since enterting the competition when they lifted the Wearside League Cup with a 3-2 victory over Redcar Athletic at Silksworth yesterday.
The Wearsiders made an excellent start, scoring twice in the opening 22 minutes.
When Shaun Petch spotted Redcar’s goalkeeper Lance Skelton off his line, he delivered a superb lob on 17 minutes and soon after, David Scott’s cross took a deflection on its way into the net.
Redcar reduced the deficit through James Smuk just before the hour mark but it took Ashbrooke only nine minutes to restore a two-goals cushion as Mark Green netted.
At 3-1, Ashbrooke were comfortable and it was deep into stoppage time that Adam Preston claimed Redcar’s second goal with virtually the last kick of the game.
Sam Bell, 16, gave a splendid performance in goal for Ashbrooke.
