KIERAN Richardson believes Steve Bruce’s astute signings have helped turn Sunderland into a side playing some of the best football in the club’s history.
But the midfielder reckons the quality of play will improve still further once Sulley Muntari reaches peak fitness, along with fellow January signing Stephane Sessegnon.
Both players had only limited first-team appearance this season at Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain respectively and are desperate to play in a winning Sunderland performance.
Richardson said: “They’ve got experience, they’re good players.
“We hadn’t won a game since they came in so that might have been playing on their minds.
“But they both played well at Arsenal and I can see them only getting stronger with confidence.
“Sulley needs to get his match fitness up and everyone will see what a top player he is.
“We see it in training every day – he’s very good on the ball.
“I’m sure he’s working hard and we’ll get the best out of him.”
Richardson though is revelling playing his part in a side improved in the January transfer window and now boosted by the return of key players from injury.
He said: “We play good football.
“All credit to the gaffer, he’s brought a lot of good footballers in and I think we play some of the best football Sunderland have ever seen.
“We’ve got a big away game against Manchester City coming up, a very tough game, but if we can get more points against the top team it could keep us in good stead.”
