CHAMPIONSHIP side Birmingham City have emerged as contenders for the signature of Hartlepool United striker Luke James.

Peterborough United remain the front-runners to sign the 19-year-old before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline but rumours have begun to circulate that Lee Clark’s Birmingham could be interested.

Posh have already had one bid rejected for last season’s top scorer who has handed in two transfer requests.

Pools supporters are anxiously waiting to see whether the Northumberland teenager will leave the Clarence Road club before tonight’s deadline.
