SIMON Walton arrives at Hartlepool United in no doubt as to his “job description”, writes CRAIG HOPE.
Pools chief Neale Cooper has made no secret of his longing for a central midfielder around which to build his team.
And Walton fits the bill.
“When I met the gaffer he told me how one of his top targets was a new player to play in the middle of midfield,” explained the 24-year-old, who joined from Plymouth Argyle last Friday.
“He wanted someone who could get on the ball, dictate the play and chip in with a few goals.
“That was the job description and it’s one I like – it suits my game perfectly. I’m never happier than when I have the ball at my feet and I like to be in possession and try to make things happen.
“I’ve got goals in my game as well and I know the gaffer wants to add goals to the team.
“So to come in and know exactly what he wants from me is great and I can’t wait to deliver that on the pitch now.”
Walton will meet his new team-mates at Maiden Castle for the first time today, admitting there will be no familiar faces in the dressing room.
“I don’t know any of the lads here, to be honest,” he said. “That’s fine, though. It’s a new start and I can’t wait to get to know them and get stuck into pre-season.
“We go to Holland at the end of the week and the timing of that is ideal for me.”
