Hartlepool United couldn't find a way past Salford City in the second round of the FA Cup - a replay set for Victoria Park.

Rhys Oates scored for Pools but who won the man of the match award? Richard Mennear gives his ratings below.

Pools (4-3-3):

Trevor Carson: 7. Could do little about the Salford equaliser, swept home from close range. Couple of smart saves second half.

Michael Duckworth: 6. One of the brighter performers fist half, put in some crunching, fully committed tackles. Quieter second.

Matthew Bates: 6. Solid enough. Just about kept Salford out second half.

Adam Jackson: 6. Similar to Bates, although the defence should have done more to prevent the equaliser.

Jake Carroll: 5. Poor from Carroll first half, too many stray passes in possession. Needs to be stronger. Improved second half.

Nicky Featherstone: 6. Quiet first half, went about his business with little fuss. Needed more from him.

Carl Magnay (C): 6. Positive to see him named after in line-up after head injury, not as imposing as normal.

Jake Gray: 7. One of his quieter games. Linked well with Oates at times but needed him to run on more from midfield. Better second half. Fierce effort saved.

Rhys Oates: 7. MOM. Pools' star performer first half, won and then scored the 8th minute penalty. Bright and direct after that.

Mikael Mandron: 4. Poor from the on-loan Sunderland forward. Offered little up front. Didn't hold the ball up and spent more time on the floor. Hauled off early.

Scott Fenwick: 5. Ineffective out wide on the left, the system didn't suit him. Missed a glorious chance second half.
