RONNIE Moore has praised the desire shown by his Hartlepool United players after they secured their first league win since October.

Pools closed the gap to safety to seven points in Sky Bet League Two after the 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town at Victoria Park.

Goals from Scott Fenwick and Rakish Bingham sealed all three points at Victoria Park, to end a 12-match winless streak.

“I think we could have won by more,” said Moore.

“Nobody could dispute that we deserved to win and we could have had three or four but I am being greedy.

“Getting the clean sheet was massive for us and the there was some big performances too.

“The two lads at the back did well, Michael Woods did really well and the two lads up top were a threat all game.

“When you have that - plus wingers showing a bit of ability - then you have a chance.

“The biggest thing for me though was the desire - which we haven’t had.

“It was the first time you could see them running around, chasing and wanting to win.

“The crowd were also fantastic again.”

The 61-year-old - who has been openly critical of his team in the build-up to the match - confirmed work will continue this week to bring in new players to strengthen the current squad.

Moore added: “I have been dropping smokescreens all over the place but didn’t get any response from the players [until today]!

“I was pleased that they took that on board and did what they needed to do, to win a game.

“We started well and got ourselves off on the front foot.”
