PAUL Murray has been axed as Hartlepool United manager after just six weeks in the job.

The decision to terminate the contracts of Murray and his assistant Willie Donachie follows last night’s 2-1 defeat to Blyth Spartans in the second round of the FA Cup.

The pair took over following the resignation of Colin Cooper at the end of October but have yet to win a league match, with Pools rooted to the bottom of the Football League.

Player coach Sam Collins has been placed in temporary charge of the club.

A short club statement said: “Hartlepool United can announce that Manager Paul Murray and Assistant Manager Willie Donachie have been released from their contracts.

“Sam Collins has been placed in temporary charge of First Team affairs.

“The Club will be making no further comment at this time.”
