RONNIE Moore admits he is often left tearing his hair out with his inconsistent wingers at Hartlepool United.
The experienced Pools chief believes Jonathan Franks and Jack Compton don’t do enough with the ball when they are in possession.
Franks himself admitted to SportMail recently that he needed to improve his delivery into the box, with Pools struggling to find the net on a regular basis this season.
Compton, meanwhile, has recently returned to the starting line-up following a lengthy spell out of the team following knee surgery, but Moore wants to see more from both of them.
Between them this season they have provided just three assists – although 24-year-old Franks has also netted four goals to make him the club’s top scorer.
The former Middlesbrough academy graduate has started every game under Moore on the flanks, including last weekend’s 1-0 defeat away to Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
“The wide men didn’t make the most of the balls they had against Wycombe,” said Moore.
“You pull your hair out with wide men.
“You see them both in training on the ball and they are both skilful.
“But it is doing that week in, week out.
“You look at any wingers at our level and
they are so inconsistent and that is why they are playing in League Two.
“We are always trying to get better in the team but as this moment in time we have to sit tight and see what there is.”
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Pools target Michael Raynes has officially left Oxford United by mutual consent ahead of his move to Mansfield Town.
As revealed by SportMail yesterday, The Stags had beaten their League Two rivals to the signature of the experienced 27-year-old centre back.
Raynes had looked set for a move to Pools for the start of the transfer window but it broke down late last week.
He had been pushed down the pecking order following Chey Dunkley’s arrival in November and wanted to move closer north to his family in Manchester.
* CONFERENCE side Gateshead have added former Hartlepool United defender Matty Robson to their squad for the rest of the season.
Robson has joined Gary Mills’ side from Sky Bet League Two side Carlisle United on loan until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old joined the Cumbrians from Pools in 2009, and can operate at left-back or left-wing.
