HARTLEPOOL United boss Paul Murray is stepping up the search for a back-up to first-choice goalkeeper Scott Flinders remains ongoing.
Pools have been without a permanent number two goalkeeper since Andy Rafferty left the club earlier this season.
In the meantime, Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman spent time on loan but he did not make an appearance for the League Two club.
Trialist Jonathan Maxted featured in the reserve win over Gateshead in midweek, but Murray admits the goalkeeping situation is “far from ideal”.
He said: “A goalkeeper has to be a priority and we have looked at a few.
“If Scott had brought the lad down against Newport and gone off then we would have to put Sam (Collins) in goal or something like that.
“It is far from ideal, so we are looking for a keeper.”
