The 18-year-old centre-back, son of former Middlesbrough and Manchester City midfielder Jamie, has been on trial at Pools in recent months and played in games for the club's youth and reserve teams.

Hignett has heaped praise on the teenager's "unbelievable" attitude and says he is hungry to do well at League Two Pools.

"We spotted potential in Ben and he did very well during his trial period," said Hignett.

"The thing with Ben is that his attitude is unbelievable; he’s a good kid who is ambitious, hungry and ambitious to do well in the game.

"He’s eager to learn all the time and that’s something I want from everyone in the squad so those are the types of characters we will be trying to bring in to the club."

Pollock spent time on the books of both Middlesbrough and Leeds United as a youngster before joining Newcastle United as a scholar two years ago.

Pollock will now link-up with his new team-mates when they return for pre-season training at the end of June.
