LUKE James says his Hartlepool United gaffer had a simple message for his team mates ahead of tonight’s match at Bury FC - three more points.
The Pools hitman scored his 10th goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Northampton Town at Victoria Park courtesy of a clinical finish, following a pin-point pass from Matty Dolan.
And now gaffer Colin Cooper wants more of the same from his troops in the Sky Bet League Two match at Gigg Lane this evening.
Amble-born James said: “The message from the gaffer on Saturday was let’s get three points again.
“We don’t fear any team in this league and if we play well on our day then we can give anyone a game.
“The message was clear, to get three points.”
Pools are currently 12th in Sky Bet League Two, just three points off seventh, and Cooper’s side could be in the play-off positions with a win tonight.
Bury, unbeaten in three matches, are currently fourth bottom with just 15 points from their opening 17 league matches and Pools will be favourites having won six out of their last eight league games.
Humble James said he can’t believe how well the season has turned out for him on a personal level so far, having smashed his pre-season target of scoring 10 goals by Christmas.
That was achieved with four weeks left to spare and James has put his personal success down to the contribution and constant supply of goalscoring chances from his team mates.
The 18-year-old said: “The team is playing brilliantly and if they are then it obviously helps me as they are the ones putting the ball into the box and I have to try to do the rest.
“Every single person in the team is playing well at the moment and if that happens then you are going to win most of your games and the team is playing tremendous football.
“We had a bit of a blip last week [against Rotherham United and Newport County] with the two defeats but it was important that we didn’t get beaten on Saturday.
“Roll on Bury tonight.”
The win over Northampton Town signalled the start of another busy week for Pools with Bury FC tonight and Portsmouth at home on Saturday in League Two.
James hopes it will be another “profitable” week for Pools.
He added: “We go into every game wanting to get the three points.
“We have Bury away tonight and hopefully we will get another win, which will set us up perfectly for Saturday.
“We take it one game at a time but another three points would be wonderful.”
