COLIN Cooper has been confirmed as the new manager of Hartlepool United.

The Middlesbrough academy coach replaces John Hughes who was sacked earlier this month following Pools’ relegation to League Two.

The Echo reported early last week that Cooper had shook on a deal to become the club’s new boss.

The 46-year-old will be entering his first full-time management position having previously taken caretaker charge of both Boro and Bradford City.

He will be assisted by former Boro team-mate and Pools midfielder Craig Hignett.
